We purchased three coffees from the most recent Cup of Excellence Brazil auction.

At the moment, we are only releasing 10 bags of each coffee. More to be released at a later date, as we are only roasting a small amount for another super secret project to be revealed in the near-ish future.

All three of the coffees feature the Arara variety. Arara is a hybrid of Obata and a Yellow Catuai. The fruit ripens to a yellow color and the seeds are larger than average, the plant has shown resistance to leaf rust diseases and it is known to produce an exceptional quality in Brazil. Perhaps due to the fact that it matures slower than other fruit, giving the seed time to develop complex sugars resulting in fruity to floral flavors in the coffee.

17 of the 30 COE coffees were of the Arara variety and only 4/30 were the gesha variety. These are the first time we have offered this variety in our lineup and our first coffees from Brazil in over 6 years. While we do not buy blender quality from Brazil, we have been eager to welcome exceptional coffee from Brazil back to our lineup. And these coffees are some of the very best we have ever tasted from Brazil. Ian (founder and green buyer at Vivid Coffee) had the incredible opportunity to participate as a member of the international jury during Brazil’s Cup of Excellence where he first tasted these coffees.

These coffees are not only exceptional — they reflect the excellence of the Arara variety, the unique terroir of Brazilian coffee, and the work of truly remarkable coffee producers. These coffees are not “good for Brazil” - they are unique and delicious, full stop, no disclaimers, no asterisks.
