If we had to choose just one style of coffee to drink forever, it might be washed Ethiopian. It’s bright, clean, complex—and when it’s good, it’s unforgettable. While recent years have made it tough to find truly exceptional Ethiopian coffees, this harvest feels like a return to form. We’re thrilled about the quality we’re seeing, which is why we jumped at the chance to purchase seven standout microlots sourced through our friends at Crop to Cup.

This lot, from the Layo Teraga Producers Cooperative, is a perfect example of why we love washed coffees from Ethiopia: vibrant, juicy, and brimming with yellow fruit—think mango, yellow watermelon, and yellow plum. It’s a day lot, kept separate for its exceptional quality. We can’t wait for you to try it… just don’t order too much—we wouldn’t mind drinking most of it ourselves if it were up to us.

Founded in 1976, the Layo Teraga cooperative has been instrumental in opening up market access for smallholder farmers in northern Uraga—an area that historically received lower prices than neighboring Gedeo or Sidama zones. Today, its 1,841 members grow coffee in semi-forested gardens around their homes, high in the mountains at 2,342 meters above sea level. This rare altitude, combined with heirloom varieties and traditional practices, yields something truly special.
