Explore El Manantial - Four Coffees from Nidia Enriquez Del Socorro
Okay friends, you don't want to miss this one. Four incredible coffees produced by Nidia Enriquez Del Socorro.
Gesha (1st Harvest)
Gesha (Late Harvest / Fly Crop)
Tabi
Castillo, Colombia, Caturra
4 × 10oz bags of each coffee listed above
We first purchased Nidia's gesha after cupping it during our visit to Colombia in 2021. The year after we were able to visit Nidia's farm during our visit to Nariño. We learned that she was cultivating other varieties: Tabi, Castillo, Colombia, and Caturra. We were sure these cultivars would also be fantastic and they were. We began purchasing the entire harvest from Nidia that year and have continued to do so.
There are only around 700 gesha trees on the farm. Each year the gesha harvest has only produced around 50-80kg. This is due not only to the amount of gesha trees planted, but the low-yielding nature of the variety. We've also found that younger gesha trees (less than 5 years old) tend to be less complex than profiles produced by more mature trees. While we haven't seen a massive increase in yield from Nidia's farm since 2021, we have seen a noticeable increase in quality. Particularly in the gesha profile. We were delighted when we received samples of the most recently harvest from the farm.
We were even more delighted when we received a surprise fourth sample after already contracting what we expected would be the entire volume of the farm. It was another gesha sample. When we cupped it we were astounded. It was a transcendent cup of coffee and may well be the highest scoring coffee we have ever cupped with a 92+ cup score. It reminded us of gesha lots of mythical status — cups of coffee that built the lore of gesha.
We learned that this particular gesha lot was a “fly crop” or a smaller, unexpected harvest that blossomed and grew from a late season rain. Whether it was the season, or the rain, or processing, all of the above, or some unexplainable magic… we cannot say. But what we can say is that everyone who gets their hands on this coffee. We decided to pair it with the early harvest - which is also quite lovely and delightful - and the tabi, castillo, caturra, colombia varities. There were only 35 KG of green coffee from the late harvest gesha and for the time being it will only be available as an exclusive to this four pack.
This is a unique opportunity to explore the depths of terroir. If you have any questions let us know.
Our first roast of the four-pack will be on Wednesday November 6th.
